John and Gayla were both born in the great state of Oklahoma. Both of them, the youngest children in their families (spoiled) were raised to honor God and learned what family truly means. Each of them were blessed with godly parents who modeled Jesus the best way they knew how.
They found each other and true
love on the campus of Oklahoma Christian University and traveled
together as part of the recruiting group/band The Summer Singers
(1988-89). After marriage and graduation, the two found themselves working
in their respective majors, TV News and Interior Design and after a
few years in the corporate world, the Lord called them into
full-time ministry working with students and families.
In 1993, they wer
e blessed with the birth of their first child, Morgan and soon
purchased their first home in Ft. Worth, TX where John began his
career in youth ministry. Morgan is such a blessing and as the
"first child", was never given a pacifier that hadn't been
sterilized or washed thoroughly with antibacterial soap! After
three years with the church where John's father grew up, they felt
the need for change and moved to W. Memphis, AR (to serve the church
there, but also because John is a big Elvis fan!)
It
was there they welcomed
another daughter, Miranda in 1997. She had inherited her
Papa's light-colored hair and her mother's temperament...calm and
somewhat shy at first. She is our Memphis-belle and early on,
was mistaken for the "sun-baby" from the Teletubbies. She
continues to be a gentle and sweet little girl but she can "rock
out" with the best of them.
After a call that brought
them back to Texas to work with the
Duncanville church and a time of learning
and transitioning, their
third daughter, Mallory was born! With her little lamb
"Nana" by her side, Mallory is definitely her own
person and has acquired the best qualities from both of her sisters
who enjoy teaching Mallory lots of big-girl
things. Mallory is a gift of God's faithfulness and continues
to bless our lives as our youngest child.
The last few years has kept us in the Metroplex working in ministry and growing and learning how best to serve God. He has been more than gracious to us and we continue to praise our Father in heaven for working miracles in our lives and the lives of those we know. He is showing us day-by-day what priorities are all about. We're not perfect and know that hard-times will come, but we are prayerful that "he who began a good work in you, will carry it on to completion." (Phil. 1:6)
